SACRAMENTO, CA — The California Asian American & Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus (AAPILC) today announced its elected leadership for the 2027–28 Legislative Session.
The Caucus has elected Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen to serve as Chair, Senator Christopher Cabaldon to serve as Vice Chair, and Assemblymember John Harabedian to serve as Parliamentarian for the 2027-28 Legislative Session.
The incoming leadership team will continue AAPILC’s work to uplift and advocate for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities across California, while advancing policies that promote equity, opportunity, representation, and stronger communities throughout the state.
As Chair, Assemblymember Nguyen will provide overall leadership and direction for the Caucus, lead Caucus meetings, and help establish its legislative and policy priorities for the upcoming session. “I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as Chair of the California Asian American & Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus. It has been over 20 years since a woman has led the AAPILC and stepping into this role is an incredible honor.” said Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen (D-Elk Grove). “I know the importance of representation and the power of having a voice at the table. I look forward to working alongside our members, community leaders, and advocates to ensure that the voices of our diverse AANHPI communities are heard, valued, and reflected in the work we do at the State Capitol. Together, we will continue building on the progress of those who came before us and creating greater opportunities for the generations that follow.”
As Vice Chair, Senator Cabaldon will work alongside the Chair in advancing the Caucus’ priorities, supporting its legislative and organizational efforts, and providing leadership in the Chair’s absence. “I'm honored to take on the role of Vice-Chair and help carry forward the work the Caucus has already built for California's AAPI communities,” said Senator Christopher Cabaldon. (D-Yolo). “As the first Filipino American to serve in the California Senate, this is personal for me. Right now, there's real momentum around the issues that matter most, like housing, economic opportunity, and protecting civil rights. I'm looking forward to working with my colleagues to keep that progress moving this session."
As Parliamentarian, Assemblymember Harabedian will support the Caucus in matters related to its governing procedures, bylaws, and help ensure Caucus business is conducted in accordance with established rules. “I am proud to serve as Parliamentarian of the California Asian American and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus for the 2027–2028 legislative session,” said Assemblymember John Harabedian (D-Pasadena).“California’s AAPI communities are an essential part of what completes this great state, and I’m honored to be part of caucus leadership and continue our work to ensure AAPI voices are heard in Sacramento. I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to advocate for policies that support AAPI families and strengthen our communities.”
The incoming officers will begin their leadership roles with the start of the 2027–28 Legislative Session and will work alongside Caucus members to build upon AAPILC’s efforts to ensure AANHPI communities have a strong voice in the California Legislature.
