Joint Statement in Response to the Elimination of Minority-Serving Institutions at Federal Level

The California Asian American & Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus, in partnership with the California Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander American Affairs (CAPIAA) and Asian Pacific Americans in Higher Education (APAHE), condemns the federal administration’s decision to eliminate critical funding for Minority-Serving Institutions. This harmful action by the Trump administration undermines the mission of these institutions, which are dedicated to expanding opportunity, fostering success, and contributing to the strength of our society.

SACRAMENTO, CA – The California Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Legislative Caucus, composed of 11 members of the State Assembly and Senate, announces its 2025 Policy Priorities Package.  The Caucus’ priority legislation are bills that fall under three priority issue areas, including bills that support immigrant communities, expand affordable housing, and support students in K-12 education and higher education:

AAPI Legislative Caucus Announces New Leadership

SACRAMENTO, CA — The California Asian American and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus (AAPILC) elected Assemblymember Mike Fong (D-Alhambra) as Chair, Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen (D-Elk Grove) as Assembly Vice-Chair, and Dr. Aisha Wahab (D-Silicon Valley) as Senate Vice-Chair. As Chair, Assemblymember Fong also appointed Assemblymember Alex Lee as Parliamentarian. The new leadership took office on August 14, 2024.
